Mexico takes first steps in Taulinoplastia. Barcelonas’s university Universidad Autónoma (UAB) collaborates with Hospital Parc Taulí in training surgeons from abroad for the implantation of the Pectus Up Surgery Kit.
Dr. Mario Riquelme Heras, pediatric surgeon in Monterrey (Mexico) was recently in Barcelona to attend some training sessions in the new Taulinoplastia technique. Collaboration between institutions, in this case hospital and university, allows Ventura Medical Technologies to increase the number of surgeons worldwide trained in the new technique.
The training workshop was carried out in Barcelona’s Universidad Autónoma with the collaboration of Dr. Alfonso Rodríguez Baeza, Head of Anatomy and Human Embryology of the Department of Morphological Sciences in the university, as well as Dissecting Room Coordinator.
Ventura Medical Technologies, along with Pediatrics Surgery Service from hospital Parc Taulí (Sabadell, Barcelona), has developed the Pectus Up Surgery Kit, the new implant allowing surgical treatment for the most frequent chest wall deformity, Pectus Excavatum, in an extra-thoracic, and therefore minimally invasive, approach.
Mexico is a country with many pediatric and thoracic surgeons, highly relevant in Pectus Excavatum treatment. With the Pectus Up Surgery Kit marketing in Spain and the prompt entry into Mexican market, there has been many surgeons and distributors interested in the new technique, which is why well-trained and good professionals are required to successfully implant the new device in patients affected by Pectus Excavatum.
To begin this training process in Mexico, Dr. Mario Riquelme has traveled to Barcelona to participate in this workshop. Dr. Riquelme is a pediatric and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery specialist, and Mexico representative before the PAPS (Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons). He is an expert in Pectus Excavatum, congenital malformations, urinary tract diseases and other treatments. Dr. Riquelme sees his patients in hospitals San José and General Conchita in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León.
