{"id":13503,"date":"2018-12-05T08:18:07","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T08:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/?p=5895\/"},"modified":"2022-08-22T08:41:20","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T08:41:20","slug":"new-pectus-up-refresher-course-in-thoracic-surgery-in-madrid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/en\/new-pectus-up-refresher-course-in-thoracic-surgery-in-madrid\/","title":{"rendered":"NEW PECTUS UP REFRESHER COURSE IN THORACIC SURGERY IN MADRID"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><em>Dr. Andr\u00e9s Varela performs a Pectus Up surgery in a refresher course in thoracic surgery held at the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Last 22nd and 23rd November, a live surgery with Pectus Up took place during <strong>a refresher course in thoracic surgery<\/strong> that was held at the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, in Madrid (Spain), in cooperation with <a href=\"http:\/\/venturamedicaltechnologies.com\/\">Ventura Medical Technologies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dr. Andr\u00e9s Varela was in charge of the organization of the course, which included presentations, discussion and clinical cases, introduced by himself and by the rest of the hospital&#8217;s thoracic surgery team\u2019s members. The course was attended by several surgeons from different hospitals of Spain, such as <strong>Hospital Virgen Macarena<\/strong> and <strong>Hospital Virgen del Roc\u00edo<\/strong> in Seville; <strong>Fundaci\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez D\u00edaz<\/strong> and <strong>Hospital<\/strong> <strong>La Paz<\/strong> in Madrid; and <strong>Hospital La Candelaria<\/strong> in Tenerife.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dr. Varela is Head of Service of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comunidad.madrid\/hospital\/puertadehierro\/\">the Hospital Puerta de Hierro<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quironsalud.es\/hospital-madrid\">Hospital Quir\u00f3nsalud Madrid<\/a> and he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quironsalud.es\/hospital-la-luz\">Hospital La Luz<\/a>, all of them in Madrid, Spain.\u00a0 He has 30 years of professional and research experience, mainly in the field of oncological thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, with more than 100 cases in the last three years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the last two years, <strong>Dr. Varela<\/strong> has performed 13 Pectus Up surgeries, thus becoming a reference in the training of surgeons, both thoracic and pediatric, in this new minimally invasive technique.\u00a0 More than 25 surgeons of national and international scope have taken part in these operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In addition, thanks to his collaboration and the improvements in the technique, the age range of the operated people has been extended, the last one being a 46-year-old patient, which increases the number of corrections in cases of asymmetric <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The <strong>Pectus Up<\/strong> has well-defined and standardized criteria allowing a good replication of the technique through an extrathoracic approach, which entails very little postoperative pain and a short recovery period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Andr\u00e9s Varela performs a Pectus Up surgery in a [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":3400,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[175],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-13503","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
