Dr. Elton and Dr. Maluje participated in a training workshop in the new Pectus Up technique for the treatment of Pectus Excavatum during their stay in Spain.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Dr. Alejandra Elton Torrej\u00f3n and Dr. Rodrigo Maluje Juri, both pediatric surgeons at the Hospital Dr. Gustavo Fricke<\/a> in Vi\u00f1a del Mar, Chile, have completed a professional internship at the Hospital Vall d\u2019Hebron in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

The training has taken place in the Pediatric Surgery Service, directed by Dr. Manuel L\u00f3pez Paredes<\/a>. The sessions, focused on neonatal and fetal laparoscopies, were backed up by a workshop in Pectus<\/strong> Up<\/strong>, the extrathoracic implant for the treatment of Pectus<\/strong> Excavatum<\/strong>, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Being a minimally invasive technique, Pectus<\/strong> Up<\/strong> represents an important step forward in the treatment of Pectus<\/strong> Excavatum<\/strong>. With this method, patients suffer less pain than with currently existing techniques, require shorter hospital days and enjoy a quick recovery, since there is no invasion of the thoracic cavity during the procedure.<\/p>\n

The first surgery with Pectus Up in Chile<\/a> took place on March 23, 2019. It was performed by Dr. Patricio Herrera Oroz<\/a>, a pediatric surgeon at the Hospital de Ni\u00f1os Dr. Exequiel Gonz\u00e1lez Cort\u00e9s<\/a> and at the Cl\u00ednica Alemana, both in Santiago, Chile.<\/p>\n

That surgery was attended by Dr. Manuel L\u00f3pez Paredes, who went as an international expert in the Pectus<\/strong> Up<\/strong> technique to give support to Dr. Herrera.<\/p>\n

The interventiom coincided with the presentation of the Pectus<\/strong> Up<\/strong> at the Annual Congress of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG), held in Santiago, Chile<\/a>, from March 19 to 23, 2019, with Dr. Miguel Guelfand and Dr. Patricio Varela among the members of the organizing committee.<\/p>\n

Pectus Chile<\/strong><\/a>, official distributor of Pectus Up in Chile, organized the presentation to professionals who attended the IPEG, along with Ventura Medical Technologies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
