It is defined by a depression of the sternum that gives a sunken appearance to the chest. The condition is diagnosed in newborns and develops progressively during puberty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A surgical treatment option that stands out from the rest for being less invasive, with lower risks and with a faster recovery time is the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This extrathoracic implant, developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/venturamedicaltechnologies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ventura Medical Technologies<\/a> and distributed by the firm <a href=\"https:\/\/biomedisys.com.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biomedysis<\/a> in Colombia, entered the country in 2017. To date, this South American state is the second country with the largest number of <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> surgeries in the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This new procedure to fix a <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> with the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> took place on April 12 in the city of Monter\u00eda, capital of the department of C\u00f3rdoba, in Colombia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 23-year-old patient had a mild and symmetrical <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> with a Haller index of 3.43. He was operated on at the <a href=\"http:\/\/imatoncomedica.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IMAT Oncom\u00e9dica Clinic<\/a> by <strong>Dr. Daniel Jos\u00e9 Jaller Salleg<\/strong>, head of service at this clinic and member of the <strong>Colombian Society of Thorax Surgery<\/strong>. The doctor was joined by the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> expert <a href=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/profesionales\/dr-carlos-alberto-rodriguez-sabogal\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Carlos Rodr\u00edguez Sabogal<\/a>, one of the surgeons who has used the most this technique, for which he was trained in Barcelona in 2017 and who has in turn trained other specialists in his country. <strong>Mr. Edgar Salazar<\/strong>, <strong>Biomedisys<\/strong> manager, was also with them during the surgery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pectus-colombia-300x225.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignright wp-image-9913 size-medium\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27300%27%20height%3D%27225%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20300%20225%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27300%27%20height%3D%27225%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pectus-colombia-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The procedure consisted of a correction of the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> with <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Pectus<\/strong> Up, and no additional sternotomy or osteotomy were needed. The patient was admitted in hospital for two days and his recovery has been fully satisfactory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> cases have established the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> in Colombia, a country where the incidence this condition is high and where more and more surgeons rely on this technique, which offers many advantages over the more traditional ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> is available in Spain, France, Portugal and
