{"id":13654,"date":"2021-05-06T09:15:19","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T09:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/?p=9943"},"modified":"2025-06-23T08:58:45","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T08:58:45","slug":"pectus-up-community-madrid-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/en\/pectus-up-community-madrid-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pectus Up lands at a new hospital in the community of Madrid in Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Hospital Infanta Elena joins the hospitals in the Community of Madrid that rely on Pectus Up for the surgical correction of Pectus Excavatum.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong>, an extrathoracic implant developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/venturamedicaltechnologies.com\/\">Ventura Medical Technologies<\/a>, is an option for the treatment of <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> which more and more thoracic surgery professionals trust in, since it is minimally invasive, it entails fewer risks than traditional alternatives and it involves a shorter recovery time than other treatments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pectus Excavatum<\/strong> is a congenital malformation that is diagnosed in childhood and is characterized by a depression of the sternum that gives the chest a sunken appearance. It is also known as <em>sunken<\/em> <em>chest<\/em> or <em>funnel<\/em> <em>chest<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This time, the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> was implanted in a 16-year-old male patient, with an asymmetric <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong>, a sternal rotation <a href=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pectus-madrid.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignright wp-image-9936 size-medium\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27225%27%20height%3D%27300%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20225%20300%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27225%27%20height%3D%27300%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pectus-madrid-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> of 26\u00ba and a Haller index of 3.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The surgery was practiced on April 26 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalinfantaelena.es\/\">Hospital Universitario Infanta Elena<\/a>, located in Valdemoro, a town in the Spanish community of Madrid. The surgeons, <a href=\"https:\/\/pectusup.com\/profesionales\/ignacio-muguruza\/?lang=en\">Dr. Ignacio Muguruza<\/a> and Dr. Yury Bellido, were the architects of the operation, performing a 2.6-centimeter elevation of the sternum without any complication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Muguruza, a thoracic surgery specialist who was trained in the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> technique at its beginning, is an Associate Professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University School of Medicine, in Madrid. In turn, Dr. Bellido, new <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Excavatum<\/strong> surgeon in Madrid, is a professor of the training program accredited by the CEU Cardenal Herrera University of the Online Master in Thoracic Oncology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As of today\u2019s date, just two weeks after the surgery, the patient is recovering in a satisfactory way with no complications, according to the surgeons themselves. Indeed, one of the advantages of <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> is, among others, the postoperative period, much easier than with other more invasive techniques.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to being available in Spain, the <strong>Pectus<\/strong> <strong>Up<\/strong> technique is also used in other European countries such as France, Portugal,
