Madrid expands the list of hospitals that provide the Pectus Up

Hospital Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid joins the centers that use the Pectus Up for the surgical treatment of Pectus Excavatum.

This summer, the number of Pectus Excavatum surgical treatments with the Pectus Up has significantly increased, both nationally and internationally, with several successful surgeries performed in different countries such as Italy, Slovakia, Greece – with the operation on the oldest patient to date– and Spain.

In Madrid, last July, Dr. Ennio Fuentes and Dr. Ricardo Díez operated on a 16-year-old male patient to fix his Pectus Excavatum with the Pectus Up implant, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies.

Dr. Ennio Fuentes has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, in Colombia. He holds an extensive experience from his specialization in pediatric surgery in Barcelona, at several reputable centers in Miami (USA), in Galicia and in Madrid (Spain). He currently works in Madrid, at the Hospital Fundación Jiménez Díaz, the Hospital Rey Juan Carlos, the Hospital Infanta Elena and the Hospital General de Villalba.

As for Dr. Ricardo Díez, he is a doctor in Medicine and Surgery, and he specializes in pediatric surgery since 1993. He is currently the head of the Pediatric Surgery service of the Fundación Jiménez Díaz, and he has more than 40 publications in national and international books and magazines. He also collaborates as a researcher in the Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology of the Alfonso X El Sabio University, in Madrid.

The patient had a symmetrical Pectus Excavatum with a slight sternal rotation of 11º, a Haller index of 3.36 and a 2.6 cm depth to be raised. The surgery went normally and the patient is recovering favorably today.

This is the first case treated by the pediatric surgery team at Hospital Rey Juan Carlos, which is added to the growing list of centers that include Pectus Up to their catalog for the surgical correction of Pectus Excavatum.
