Patient Testimonials Pectus Up
My overall assessment of the experience is excellent. When we were told about the new surgical technique, I felt a sense of relief. I had to wait almost two years for the operation while the necessary approvals were being processed in my region. Although I was eager to move forward and undergo the planned surgery, my parents and I decided to wait. In the end, it was a complete success.
As a family, we were worried about the risks, pain, and length of the treatment for our son’s pectus excavatum, but we also saw how much the condition was affecting his life. Fortunately, the procedure was quick, everything went well, and we were able to return home soon after. Our son went back to his normal life within just a few weeks, and his new appearance has greatly boosted his confidence. We trust that his heart and lungs will continue to develop normally. We are very happy with our experience and highly recommend Dr. Porello and the Pectus Up team to anyone considering this option.
It is a perfectly reproducible technique, although the basic concepts must be well understood for proper execution. With the updated version of the technique, the procedure has been significantly improved and simplified. The technique is safe; it only requires following the sequence of steps through to completion. Once the desired elevation and fixation between the plates are achieved, the system feels very stable. It is also an easy and reproducible surgical technique, minimally invasive, when our main goal is sternal elevation to correct the thoracic structure.
Recovery a few days after the surgery was quick and almost painless. Two months later, I could barely remember I had even had surgery. My life before the operation was normal, as long as I didn’t show my chest. Summers were stressful because friends would invite me to their houses with pools, and sometimes I wouldn’t go for the same reason, having to explain why I always kept my shirt on. I also couldn’t run much because I was afraid my heart would beat too fast and I’d feel some pressure.
I believe that with proper knowledge of chest wall surgery, along with some understanding of biomechanics, Pectus Up is a highly reproducible technique. At first, there may be some uncertainty about the traction capacity of the system, but as experience is gained—and with the most recent evolution of Pectus Up—it proves to be a safe and effective option in selected cases. This technique offers a major advantage: it modifies the chest wall without entering the pleural space, allowing for faster recovery and shorter hospitalization compared to other techniques.
I would recommend Pectus Up to others affected by Pectus Excavatum. I used to feel embarrassed going to the pool with my friends. It didn’t stop me from doing physical activities, but I had to be careful, as the Pectus caused slight breathing and heart problems.
Before the surgery, I had a very deep chest depression, my shoulder blades were quite prominent, and I had a very hunched posture. I had considered undergoing surgery before learning about Pectus Up. I decided to have the Pectus Up procedure because it was the least invasive option.
Before being treated for pectus excavatum, my daily life was uncomfortable. Going out anywhere became stressful because my shirt would stick to my body, making the chest depression noticeable.
Before learning about Pectus Up, I had considered undergoing surgery, but it wasn’t until I discovered this technique that I made the decision. Before having the Pectus Up procedure, my life was the same, but I struggled with an internal insecurity that made me think for years, every time I looked in the mirror, that I wished I didn’t have that chest depression.
The surgery was quick and as the days went by I began to notice improvement, and after a week the discomfort was minimal. I want to thank Ventura Medical Technologies for making my Pectus Excavatum surgery possible. I used to feel very self-conscious, and thanks to this procedure those thoughts have gradually disappeared. The operation was fast. It’s true that during the first two or three days it hurts when you move or make a full motion; you need rest and help from another person. But as the days pass you feel better, and after a week that discomfort becomes very small. It’s been exactly one year since the surgery and all I can say is thank you very much. I live a normal life, go to the gym, to the beach, and most importantly I feel good. Thanks to the company for their close and personalized support throughout the whole process.
