INNOVATION

The first project that was developed stemmed from an idea by Dr. Bardají, head of the pediatric surgery service at the Parc Taulí Health Corporation, and the Taulí Foundation.

It was based on the development of a new surgical method and a device, called the Pectus Up Surgery Kit, for the treatment of Pectus Excavatum, the most common congenital malformation of the rib cage in children and adolescents.

History of Pectus Up

(2010) Creation of Ventura Medical Technologies

Founded in 2010, Ventura Medical Technologies is a Catalan family-owned company that began its industrial journey over 40 years ago, becoming a global leader in the manufacturing of high-precision components for automotive brake pumps. The company’s high level of competitiveness and its strong commitment to excellence led it to open a new business line focused on the healthcare sector.

With a firm positioning in favor of innovation and a desire to engage with society, the company integrates cutting-edge technology and the most qualified professionals to design and develop its medical devices. To achieve optimal results in the creation of new medical devices, collaboration agreements are established with various healthcare, university, and innovation centers worldwide.

(2012) Development of the first medical device: Pectus Up

As a result of sharing innovative ideas in high-standard hospital environments, in 2012 the company’s first medical device was developed: the Pectus Up. It was designed to offer a minimally invasive corrective solution for patients with Pectus Excavatum, whether children, adolescents, or adults, by permanently correcting the shape of their chest.

It is based on a new surgical method and an implantable material to correct this congenital malformation, the most common chest wall deformity in children and adolescents through an extrathoracic approach. The Pectus Up is a procedure that treats Pectus Excavatum in a single, short surgical intervention, causing very little pain and allowing for a quick recovery, which makes it highly well-tolerated by patients.

(2012 - 2015) First clinical trials with Pectus Up.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Pectus Up among treated patients, a clinical trial was conducted between 2012 and 2015. The results showed that the procedure successfully corrected the chest depression without the complications associated with traditional techniques, and it also achieved high levels of patient satisfaction.

(2015) Commercialization of Pectus Up

In 2015, Pectus Up was introduced to the market, initially in European countries, and quickly expanded to Latin American countries, offering an innovative surgical option for the definitive correction of patients affected by Pectus Excavatum worldwide.

(2017) Evolution of the technique in collaboration with surgeons.

As Pectus Up has been implemented, there has been great interest in expanding this innovative and effective solution to benefit more patients, including older individuals and those with more complex cases of Pectus Excavatum.

The collaboration between the company’s engineers and surgeons committed to the technique and technological innovation has been crucial for sharing ideas and introducing new elements to the product and changes to the procedure, improving the effectiveness, simplicity, and safety of Pectus Up. The new version is now called Pectus Up New Generation.

(Present day) Global presence and consolidation of Pectus Up

Currently, Pectus Up is available in more than 20 countries across all the continents in the world, used by a large community of surgeons specializing in the treatment of chest deformities. To date, over 300 successful surgeries have been performed. An increasing number of surgeons worldwide are undergoing training to become part of the Pectus Up community.
