Specialist training at Reina Sofía University Hospital, a reference center for lung transplantation and thoracic oncology in the Andalusian Community, as well as a pioneering institution in Spain for several surgical procedures. There, he gained extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS), including tracheal surgery, endothoracic goiter, pulmonary metastasis resection, conventional and ex-vivo lung transplantation, and procedures assisted by extracorporeal circulation and ECMO.
He served as co-surgeon for the first donation-after-circulatory-death lung transplant performed in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain. In July 2018, he carried out the first sequential bilateral lung transplant in Ecuador — the first in the world performed at over 2,800 meters above sea level — marking a milestone in the country’s and region’s medical history.
He has performed more than 30 airway surgeries, including complex tracheal procedures.
