Ventura Medical Technologies and Pectus Chile, the new official distributor of Pectus Up in this Latin American country, introduced the new implant at the Annual Congress of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG).

The IPEG is an organization that promotes new ideas, innovation and education in minimally invasive pediatric surgery, which is why the Pectus Up was present at its 28th Annual Congress, atended by 2,500 guests, including medical, pediatrics and neonatology professionals.

The congress was held in Santiago de Chile between March 19 and 23 with Dr. Miguel Guelfand and Dr. Patricio Varela as members of the organizing committee.

The introduction of the Pectus Up at the IPEG congress, before the international professionals who attended the congress, was organized Mr. Jorge Espinoza, CEO of Pectus Chile, the new oficial distributor for Ventura Medical Technologies’ Pectus Up in the country.

Furthermore, and coinciding with the event, on Saturday March 23 the first surgery with Pectus Up took place in Chile, held by Dr. Patricio Herrera Oroz, a pediatric surgeon from Santiago de Chile who operated on the first Chilean patient treated with this technique, a 13 year-old girl, in the Hospital Dr. Exequiel González Cortés. Herrera is a doctor at the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital Dr. Exequiel González Cortés and the Clínica Alemana de Santiago. He is also a member of the Chilean Society of Pediatric Surgery and works as a professor at the University of Chile.

The surgical intervention was also atended by Dr. Manuel López Paredes, an international expert in the Pectus Up technique, offering his support to Dr. Herrera in this first surgery practiced in Chile. Dr. López is the head of the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, ​​and has successfully held several interventions with this new extrathoracic method on patients from different countries around the world.
