Pectus Up® continues its international expansion with an important new milestone: the first procedures using the technique have been successfully performed in the Czech Republic.
The first surgeries took place at Motol University Hospital in Prague and University Hospital Brno, marking the introduction of Pectus Up® into two leading Czech healthcare institutions and opening a new stage for the treatment of pectus excavatum in the country.
This achievement represents another step forward in our mission to make the Pectus Up® technique available to more surgeons and patients across Europe. The technique offers an innovative approach to pectus excavatum correction based on an extrathoracic procedure designed to elevate the sternum without introducing a corrective bar inside the thoracic cavity.
We would like to congratulate Prof. Michal Rygl and Prof. Ladislav Planka, together with their respective surgical teams, for taking this important first step and incorporating the Pectus Up® technique into their clinical practice. Their commitment to introducing new surgical approaches is essential to expanding treatment options for patients with pectus excavatum.
The first cases were also supported by Dr. Calogero Porrello, Pectus Up® proctor, who travelled to the Czech Republic to accompany the procedures and provide hands-on training to the surgical teams. His experience with the technique plays an important role in supporting surgeons during the initial implementation phase and in helping ensure a structured and safe adoption of Pectus Up®.
Training and proctoring are fundamental parts of the international implementation of the technique. Through collaboration between experienced Pectus Up® surgeons and new clinical teams, knowledge can be transferred directly in the operating room and adapted to the specific needs of each hospital.
We would also like to thank our Czech partner for their commitment, coordination and trust throughout the process. Their work has been instrumental in making Pectus Up® available to Czech surgeons and patients and in establishing the foundations for its future development in the country.
The arrival of Pectus Up® in the Czech Republic further strengthens the growing European network of hospitals and surgeons using the technique and reflects the increasing international interest in alternative approaches for the correction of pectus excavatum.
These first procedures are only the beginning. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Czech surgical teams, supporting future cases and helping more patients benefit from Pectus Up® in the Czech Republic.
