Dr. Nuria Mañes performs the first Pectus Up surgery in Canary Islands, at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC), together with the leading thoracic surgeon Dr. Calogero Porrello, who travelled from Italy to participate in this surgery.
The HUC becomes the first hospital in the Canary Islands to offer the innovative Pectus Up technique to patients affected by Pectus Excavatum, also known as sunken or funnel chest.
Dr. Mañes, head of the Thoracic Surgery Service at this hospital, is an authority in this speciality, awarded by the Royal Academy of Medicine, where she has been admitted as a Corresponding Academician. The incorporation of Pectus Up at the HUC strengthens the hospital’s capacity to offer cutting-edge treatments.
The prestigious surgeon Dr. Calogero Porrello, with a long experience in this novel technique, is internationally recognised for his long and successful career in thoracic surgery, with more than 30 years of experience and more than 4,000 operations in public and private hospitals in Italy and other countries, which places him among the most accredited Italian professionals in the country.
She is currently head of the thoracic and reconstructive plastic surgery department of one of the most renowned clinics in Palermo. Porrello’s teaching projection was evident in his collaboration with Dr. Mañes during the surgery.
The University Hospital of the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with its solid infrastructure and focus on healthcare excellence, has established itself as a benchmark in the regional health system. With more than 18,100 surgical interventions and almost 12,500 consultations per year, the HUC attends to a large number of patients, standing out for its commitment to training and research in the field of health.
With this innovative technique, a definitive correction of Pectus Excavatum is performed without the need to enter the thoracic cavity, very minimally invasive, which entails no risk to the health of patients, very little pain and a speedy recovery and return to their daily lives.
With this first successful intervention, Dr. Mañes reaffirms her commitment to innovation and excellence in medical care, providing hope and a better quality of life to patients affected by Pectus Excavatum in the Canary Islands Community.
