Corachan Clinic in Barcelona was the scene of a new surgical procedure made by Dr. Manuel López to a 42-year-old patient from Philadelphia (United States).
Dr. López, along with Dr. Javier Bueno, operated with the Pectus Up technique, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies, on an adult patient who moved on purpose from the American continent to correct his Pectus Excavatum.
The Corachan Clinic has just been awarded, for the fourth consecutive year, with the TOP 20 IASIST Award as the best clinic in Spain in the category of Global Hospital Management, for its commitment to quality and excellence.
Along with doctors López and Bueno, the surgery was also atended by Dr. Jesús Broto, Head of the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor in Barcelona, ?? belonging to Quirónsalud Group. Likewise, and for the second time in a case of Pectus Up in Barcelona, ??Dr. Nagarajan Muthialu, cardiothoracic surgeon in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, had a relevant participation throughout the surgical session.
Dr. Manuel López is a doctor of medicine, and currently a university professor and head of the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital Vall d’Hebron, in Barcelona. He was previously responsible for the Pediatric Surgery service of the Hôpital Nord CHU in Saint Étienne, France, as well as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the same town. Currently, he is the secretary of the executive committee of the Chest Wall International Group (CWIG), reviewer of several international publications specialized in urology, pediatric surgery and laparoscopy, and member of the editorial board of the World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics.
López has took part in hundreds of Pectus Excavatum surgeries and, up until now, he is one of the most experienced surgeons with the Pectus Up, having operated on both pediatric patients and adults, some of them over 40 years old. In turn, he is the one who has trained more surgeons in the new technique beyond Spanish borders, as in France, in Colombia and Mexico, which makes him the most relevant professional in this technique at the international level.
Dr. Javier Bueno is Chief of Section in the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital MaternoInfantil Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, and he has extensive experience in highly complex surgery. He was part of the world’s first total face transplant, performed at the Hospital Vall d’Hebron, and also of the first bowel transplant in Catalonia.
The presence in this intervention, the second in Barcelona, ??of Dr. Nagarajan Muthialu deserves special attention. A member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, and a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, Muthialu specializes in cardiac, thoracic and tracheal diseases in children, as well as in heart and lung transplants. He is a member of the Communications Workforce Committee’s Pediatric Council in the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation; a founding member of the World Society of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, and a life member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, the Asian Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (India), the Scandinavian Society for Research in Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network (CTSNET).
Dr. Muthialu’s interest in the new technique of Pectus Up, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies, will now provide more Pectus Excavatum patients the possibility of receiving a new extrathoracic and minimally invasive treatment throughout the British territory.
