In November, the Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia (CHGUV) was the stage for a pioneering intervention in Spain. Renowned thoracic surgeon Dr. Ricardo Guijarro performed an innovative surgery to correct a severe case of Pectus Excavatum in a 19-year-old patient, employing for the first time in Spain a doble Pectus Up plate technique.

The procedure, led by Dr. Guijarro, Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department, alongside Dr. Eva García del Olmo, marked a milestone in the treatment of this chest wall deformity. The decision to use two Pectus Up plates enabled a more precise and stable correction of the patient’s severe sternal depression.

Doble Pectus Up Plates: Innovation for the Most Complex Cases

The use of two Pectus Up plates is a strategy reserved for particularly complex cases, such as extensive and deep sternal depressions, and has proven highly effective.

Internationally, only two similar interventions had been documented: one performed at the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, led by Professor Alessandro Inserra and Dr. Federico Fediani, and another in Australia, led by Dr. Shyam Kolvekar. Both achieved excellent results.

The Pectus Up technique, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies, represents a significant advancement in the treatment of Pectus Excavatum. As an extrathoracic and minimally invasive alternative, it reduces risks and improves recovery times.
