Workshop introduces UAE surgeons to a less invasive extrathoracic technique for treating Pectus Excavatum
On August 5, the expansion of the Pectus Up® technique in the United Arab Emirates took a decisive step forward. Following the first intervention in Dubai, Dr. Calogero Porrello traveled that same day to YAS Island Rotana, Abu Dhabi to lead a workshop together with Dr. Puja Khaitan and ten thoracic surgeons from the region.
Dr. Porrello, an Italian thoracic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience and an international expert in chest wall deformities, demonstrated first-hand the application of the Pectus Up® technique, guiding participants through each step of the procedure.
Dr. Khaitan, President of the Congress and organizer of the event, played a pivotal role in the workshop. She is a professor at Khalifa University and currently practices at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. A distinguished thoracic surgeon, Dr. Khaitan is internationally recognized for her expertise in minimally invasive procedures and the management of complex chest wall pathologies, both in the UAE and around the world..
The session concluded with a networking space that allowed attendees to exchange experiences and plan the first cases in hospitals in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
