Dr. Laureano Molins and Dr. Angela Guirao Montes performed the first surgery in Hospital Clínic de Barcelona on a 36-year-old patient affected by Pectus Excavatum.

The intervention practiced by doctors Molins and Guirao was attended by professionals from the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona (also known as Can Ruti) and the Thoracic Surgery Service of the Hospital Quirónsalud of Córdoba.

Dr. Andrea Soria from Can Ruti, and Dr. Antonio Álvarez Kindelan, from Hospital Quirónsalud of Córdoba, were trained in the new Pectus Up technique with the team led by Dr. Laureano Molins, who performed the operation along with Dr. Guirao on a 36-year-old patient with excellent results.

Dr. Antonio Álvarez Kindelan is Head of Thoracic Surgery at Hospital Quirónsalud of Córdoba and Thoracic Surgeon of the Pulmonary Transplant Unit of the Hospital Reina Sofía, in the same Spanish city. In turn, Dr. Andrea Soria is a specialist in pediatric surgery, trained at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, ??with a specific dedication in thoracic and digestive surgical pathology. She is currently head of the pediatric surgery service at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol.

With the incorporation of these two surgical services, more hospitals in Spain will be able to offer the new surgical treatment of Pectus Up to Pectus Excavatum affected patients, both children and adults. This method has been developed by Ventura Medical Technologies and has many advantages over previous techniques, including a less invasive approach, a less painful procedure and a faster recovery.

Dr. Laureano Molins is the head of service in the Hospital Clínic and the Sagrat Cor Hospital in Barcelona, ??as well as a founding member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a professor at the School of European Thoracic Surgery, an associate professor of surgery at the University of Barcelona, ??and member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors.

Dr. Angela Guirao is a member of the Spanish Society of Thoracic Surgery attached to the thoracic surgery service of the Hospital Clínic, a university hospital founded in 1906 and belonging to the Network of Hospitals of Public Utility of Catalonia (XHUP). This hospital is a reference center in the city of Barcelona and also as a tertiary hospital of high complexity in the development of lines of activity for patients, not only in Catalonia but throughout Spain, and even in the international level, with a long history in research and teaching.
