Last October, several successful surgeries with the Pectus Up technique were performed on patients affected by Pectus Excavatum in Latvia, specifically at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital in Riga.

The Ventura Medical Technologies team traveled to Latvia to provide hands-on training to local surgeons, working closely with Formedics, the Pectus Up partner in the Baltic States.

The workshop was organized and attended by distinguished surgeons, including Dr. Ksenija Soldatenkova and Dr. Janis Karlsons from the Children’s Clinical University Hospital, along with their colleague Dr. Girts Aleksejevs. Dr. Andrius Timpa, who traveled from Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos in Lithuania, also joined the training session to witness and gain expertise in the Pectus Up technique.

Pectus Excavatum is a congenital condition in which the sternum is sunken into the chest. The Pectus Up procedure offers a minimally invasive solution, providing a safer and more effective alternative to traditional surgical methods.

The fact that the technique is extrathoracic provides numerous advantages, including a shorter recovery time, less pain and discomfort, and a lower risk of major complications. In addition, it offers an improved cosmetic result and durable, stable correction, ensuring that the chest remains in the desired position for a long-term.

By training these surgeons in the Pectus Up technique, patients with Pectus Excavatum in Latvia now have improved access to advanced treatment locally, minimizing the need to travel abroad for care. This represents a significant landmark for the healthcare system in the Baltic States, expanding treatment options for patients with this thoracic deformity and positively impacting society.
