MARTIN – The Department of Pediatric Surgery at Martin University Hospital was the first in Slovakia to use a unique surgical method for inverted chest or pectus excavatum (vpáčený hrudník), called Pectus Up. The method has the advantage of not penetrating deep into the chest, unlike other minimally invasive methods. The surgical incision is very small, and the metal plate that corrects the chest deformity is placed over the sternum, beneath the muscular layer.
