Three surgeries to correct the Pectus Excavatum with the Pectus Up implant in Slovakia
Last March 2021, the Pectus Up implant was registered before the Slovak health authorities. The SUKL (State Institute for Drug Control) approved the registration of the implant and the surgical technique to treat Pectus Excavatum. This can be possible thanks to the valuable collaboration of the new Pectus Up slovak distributor, the company Radix Medical Spol.
The reliability, the reduction in hospital admission and recovery time, aas well as the good results of this minimally invasive technique is increasingly evident, as proved by its current expansion in several countries on the European and American continents.
After the registration, the first surgeries with the Pectus Up in Slovakia have not been too long to come. Last June, three surgeries took place in the city of Martin, located in the north of the country.
Success of the Pectus Up at Martin University Hospital
Slovakia has four university hospitals throughout its territory, and the Martin University Hospital is one of the leading centers in the treatment of chest wall deformities, treating approximately ten cases per year.
At this hospital, the treatment of Pectus Excavatum in pediatric patients is carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of the pediatric surgery and thoracic surgery teams.
The three surgeries with Pectus Up took place on June 30. The patients, three males aged 17, 18 and 39 years respectively, had asymmetric Pectus Excavatum, with Haller index between 2.8 and 5.78, and depths to be raised between 1.8 and 3.1 centimeters, the latter being the one of the older patient.
All of them concluded normally and the results were satisfactory. One of the surgeons, Dr. Marian Molnar, a pediatric surgeon at Martin University Hospital, had learned about the Pectus Up technique for the first time in a workshop held in France, in Saint Etienne, by Ventura Medical Technologies, the developer of the implant. In the surgeries, he was joined in by Dr. Anton Dzian, head of the surgery service, and Dr. Barbora Spakova, pediatric surgeon and associate professor at the same hospital. To date, patients are recovering favorably without complications.
