Dr. Patricio Herrera trusts again on the innovative Pectus Up surgical method to treat a patient affected by Pectus Excavatum

Last September. Dr. Patricio Herrera Oroz performed for the second time in Santiago, Chile, a successful surgical intervention of a 13-year-old boy affected by Pectus Excavatum. The doctor was supported by Mr. Jorge Espinoza from Pectus Chile, official distributor of the extrathoracic implant developed by Ventura Medical Technologies.
Herrera is member of the Pediatric Surgery Service at the Clínica Alemana in Santiago and at the Dr. Exequiel González Cortés Children’s Hospital, where he works in a training program in children’s thorax for pediatric surgeons. He is also actively involved in Child Surgery teaching at the University of Chile.
This internationally recognized pediatric surgeon has more than 15 years of experience in this specialty. He has been the first surgeon in Chile to use Pectus Up to treat his patients affected by Pectus Excavatum.

Last September, a Pectus Up training workshop arranged by Ventura Medical Technologies was held in Barcelona (Spain). The workshop was attended by Dr. Raúl Berrios Silva, Thorax Oncology surgeon and current Head of surgery rooms of the Clínica Alemana.
Pectus Up, being a minimally invasive technique, represents an important advance in the treatment of Pectus Excavatum. It is not excessively complex and does not require a high background, but it does need a continuous training by the surgeon.
The new technique brings many advantages for the patient, involves fewer complications, both intraoperative and postoperative, and causes less pain. Thus, patients experience a better recovery and early adaptation to their daily lives.
With this new surgery in Chile, the Pectus Up technique keeps moving forward in Latin America. Surgeons specializing in chest wall reconstruction see it as one of the best treatment options for Pectus Excavatum.
Currently, the Pectus Up is being marketed in Spain, France and Portugal, in Europe, and in Colombia, Chile and Mexico in Latin America. Soon, it will also be available in Italy, Morocco, Peru, Costa Rica and Ecuador, thus strengthening as a good alternative to traditional techniques for the fixing of the Pectus Excavatum.
