On September 22, Dr. Manuel López Paredes introduced the new generation of Pectus Up to the attendees at the Chest World International Group Annual meeting in Norfolk (Virginia).

From September 22 to 24, the Nuss Advanced Pectus course and the 2021 Chest Wall International Group (CWIG) Annual Meeting were held in Norfolk, in coastal Virginia (USA) , both in an on-site and virtual assistance format. This edition was received with great enthusiasm by all the organizing members and attendees, since the global Covid-19 pandemic forced the 2020 edition to reinvent itself by becoming a 4-day webinar.

This year, 11 hands-on workshops were included in a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). Interactive workshops and educational lectures, which allowed participants to work directly with innovative surgical tools, focused on nine techniques for treating thoracic malformations, including the Pectus Excavatum.

One of the techniques which were introduced was the new Pectus Up Surgery Kit model developed by Ventura Medical Technologies. With this new generation of Pectus Up, the typology of patients treated of Pectus Excavatum is expanded, with an extrathoracic and minimally invasive correction.

The presentation, led by one of the greatest specialists in the technique, Dr. Manuel López Paredes, received great acceptance from all those present. Dr. López is the Head of the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, and has a long background behind him in the practice of surgery, as a member of the CWIG and author of more than 180 publications and lectures in congresses.

Dr. Donald Nuss, pioneer of the technique that bears his name for the treatment of Pectus Excavatum, as well as honorary director of this year’s edition, expressed an interested in this new model of treatment.

For Ventura Medical Technologies, the developer of the Pectus Up implant, the presence at this event is a great challenge, since the progress and evolution of the technique could be presented in one of the most important forums in the treatment of chest wall pathologies.
