Dr. Christian Mauricio Dam Arce, cardiothoracic surgeon at Hospital Metropolitano de San José performs the first surgery with Pectus Up, the innovative extrathoracic corrective treatment for patients affected by Pectus Excavatum.
Christian Mauricio Dam Arce, an expert in chest wall reconstruction and Pectus Excavatum surgery, as well as in multiple cardiac and pulmonary surgery procedures, operated on a patient with Pectus Excavatum, a thoracic deformity also known as funnel chest.
In this his first intervention in a private hospital in Costa Rica, the prestigious surgeon was assisted by Dr. Patricio Herrera, an expert surgeon in the treatment of thoracic deformities, and specifically with the Pectus Up, who has collaborated in other surgeries as an expert in this technique in different Latin American countries.
Dr. Dam Arce expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained and highlighted the importance of dealing with Pectus Excavatum in such an effective way. He also thanked Dr. Herrera for his collaboration and invaluable experience during the whole process.
The sharing of experience and knowledge by highly trained and specialised surgeons in the field of thoracic surgery demonstrates their commitment and professionalism to provide their patients with the best solution for their Pectus Excavatum, with a quick recovery and a better quality of life.
More and more surgeons from all over the world, of all generations, are part of the Pectus Up community of experts, specialising in paediatric, thoracic and plastic surgery. This technique, in addition to being robust and innovative, takes the minimally invasive concept (MIRPE) to another level, establishing a natural link between the correction of Pectus Excavatum with the best and almost painless surgical technique.
The health centre where this first intervention was performed is the Hospital Metropolitano, based in San Jose, a centre that offers a private medical alternative that combines excellent service with the innovation necessary for a cutting-edge method such as Pectus Up to be carried out with a total guarantee of quality and safety.
Currently, the Hospital operates in San Jose and in six other locations, Santa Ana, Quepos, Santa Cruz (Guanacaste), Moravia and Liberia, as well as dsipopner of several centres of excellence, in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, among others, and with a research institute, the MRI – Metropolitano Research Intitute.
