Pectus Up® is now available in India, with surgical correction procedures being performed at Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (also known as Rabindranath Tagore Hospital) in Mukundapur, Kolkata.
The procedure was successfully carried out on a young patient diagnosed with Pectus Excavatum (sunken chest) by Dr. Manujesh, Dr. Amitabh, and the thoracic surgery team at the Rabindranath Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences, a multi-speciality hospital in Kolkata and part of the Narayana Health network.
This case was made possible through a structured training pathway and close collaboration with Dr. Shyam, who provided mentorship and hands-on guidance throughout the preparation and procedural planning.
Dr. Shyam Kolvekar is a London-based consultant cardiothoracic surgeon whose practice spans both cardiac and thoracic surgery, with particular expertise in chest wall deformities and minimally invasive techniques. He is among the leading Pectus Up® surgeons in the United Kingdom and is widely recognized for his extensive experience treating Pectus Excavatum using the Pectus Up® technique.
Bringing Pectus Up® to India supports a broader goal: helping more patients access a modern surgical option for Pectus Excavatum locally, without necessarily needing to travel abroad for evaluation and treatment pathways.
Pectus Up® is a minimally invasive, extrathoracic technique designed to correct Pectus Excavatum without entering the chest cavity. By working externally to lift and support the sternum, the approach aims to reduce surgical trauma and streamline recovery in appropriately selected patients, based on clinical evaluation by qualified specialists.
We would like to thank all the surgeons and clinical teams involved, especially Dr. Manujesh, Dr. Amitabh, and the thoracic surgery team, along with Dr. Shyam Kolvekar for his ongoing mentorship. We are also grateful to Mr. Abel Alexander & Team for their dedication and collaboration in supporting access to Pectus Up® in India.
